Get tougher on lawlessness

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Police Commissioner Anthony Batts and Gov. Larry Hogan must get control of Baltimore ("Protest ties up traffic in city," May 27). The recent demonstration that blocked access to the city via Interstate 395 was not just inconvenient for the thousands who were delayed on the way to their jobs, it was another frightening reminder that our leaders don't have control of our communities.

We're not safe when mobs, "peaceful" or violent and destructive, take over. And we've got a level of crime that we haven't seen for decades. Our leaders must consider that the long-term damage to Baltimore is truly worrisome. Tax-paying businesses and tax-paying responsible citizens will flee the city, causing yet further unsupportable downward spiral. Stop the pandering and get tough on lawlessness, please.
