Hogan has no mandate

Gov. Larry Hogan is being disingenuous with his repeated claim that he was elected because Maryland voters "demanded change" ("Session ends in acrimony," April 14).

An overwhelmingly Democratic state, even a conservative one like Maryland, does not elect a Republican governor unless it has serious reservations about the Democratic nominee. The reason Mr. Hogan was elected is because a majority of Marylanders who went to the polls rejected his Democratic opponent, Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown.

This is why Mr. Hogan is our governor today and not his extreme economic agenda which would reduce services to Maryland's most vulnerable citizens.
