Public housing easier than brain surgery

CBS Miami’s Kenneth Craig reports from New York.

I'm sure that Dr. Ben Carson, a brain surgeon, is smart enough to run the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. These so-called advocates of housing and so-called political experts always talking about experience — have they forgotten that some farmers, a printer and some soldiers created this republic ("Ben Carson to be named HUD secretary," Dec. 5)?

None of these critics spoke out about the lack of experience of Barack Obama to be president. Why now? Dr. Carson grew up in subsidized housing, so he does have some experience. I have lived in Baltimore for 60-plus years and have seen public housing built and years later — due to public service employees and tenants not maintaining these homes — torn down and new ones built.
