I was delighted to learn about Rachel Carson's connection with Baltimore ("The founder of the environmental movement had Baltimore roots," Nov. 10). When speaking of Ms. Carson's education, Jamie Stiehm said that she graduated from "a women's college." In the context of the sentence, the phrase has a demeaning tone.
Ms. Carson graduated in 1929 from the Pennsylvania College for Women, now Chatham College.
