Carroll is still relevant

I am in awe and read with avid interest The Sun's editorial on Charles Carroll of Carrollton ("Charles Carroll of Carrollton: Maryland's First Citizen," July 4).

I, as well as my peers, were unanimously bored, "yawned" and out to lunch at Franklin High School in 1964 when our Founding Fathers were discussed in ancient U.S. history class.

I have to thank Lin-Manuel Miranda in bringing to life the incredible story another immigrant forefather, Alexander Hamilton.

Our Founders, including our own Charles Carroll, now come to life and reality as people dedicated to our freedom as the American people that we now are, regardless of our race, gender, religion and political beliefs — although I do abhor his stance on accepting slavery as a way of life.

As a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Mr. Carroll confirmed Maryland's stance in support of our great nation.

Thank you for your enlightening editorial.
