Carroll County will move rocks, not people

Was anyone besides me struck by the irony of Carroll County residents approving a 4.7-mile conveyor system to transport limestone between Union Bridge and New Windsor ("Good morning, Baltimore," May 11)?

Last year the Carroll County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution to prevent the construction of any mass transit system that allows access into and out of the county. But moving inanimate limestone underground apparently is OK for the pliable citizenry as long as they plant some compensatory shrubbery to hide this eyesore.

I wonder where the patriots are in Carroll County. Aren't they concerned that this will be a Trojan horse that will bring immigrants, the Islamic State, gays or atheists into their bucolic countryside?

They say it is only transporting limestone, but it makes you wonder. How do we know the cement plant isn't bringing in undocumented immigrants to construct the facility who will take American jobs?

A word to the concerned citizens: All they have to do to halt the project is imply that it will bring minorities into Carroll County. That will stop it in its tracks.

If the county is too afraid to send a girls soccer team to Druid Hill Park for a single game, one can only imagine the paranoia that might induce.
