Yes Jody Landers, you are missing something ("Presidential race: What am I missing?" Dec. 21). Don't feel bad. Gov. Jeb Bush and Sen. Marco Rubio have also missed the same thing. The thing you are missing is you don't get to write the qualifications for candidates and nothing you are offering as qualifications are in the U.S. Constitution.
For decades, we have done it Mr. Landers' way and we have ended up with an out-of-control government that can't seem to pass anything. Oh, they have passed plenty in the way of excluding anything corrupt they may be doing as no longer against the law or anything their own ethics committee will object to either.
They've been bought and paid for by big business so that any risky business attempts can go for huge gains for that company all the while should they be wrong and fail, the bill falls upon "we the people." As a direct result, we are currently $18.8 trillion in debt and going the wrong direction.
I like Donald Trump and am amazed that he has taken on and embarrassed two of the most respected names in journalism, Chuck Todd of NBC and this week, George Stephanopoulos on ABC. Both of these so-called journalists set out to embarrass the candidate on his stand on thousands of Muslims cheering in New Jersey after the fall of the World Trade Center.
The press insists on framing the election as the public wanting a Washington outsider, and I prefer to state that I am sick and tired of career politicians who poll voters to death to learn the right answers to tell them in their campaign but once they get elected go back to working for their big business financiers.
