As The Sun noted recently, the lack of female Republican candidates in the race to replace retiring Sen. Barbara Mikulski is regrettable ("The Md. GOP needs to cultivate female candidates," Aug. 23).

However, not all contests for congressional seats in Maryland today are without qualified Republican female candidates. I am exploring running for Congress in Maryland's 6th District and my record of accomplishment and integrity, and my commitment to represent and serve all the people of the district, is what sets me apart — not just my gender.

Throughout my career I have successfully managed people, big budgets and complicated programs dealing with issues of national importance. I believe that my past has been great training for me to represent the entire 6th Congressional District of Maryland and be a wise member of Congress. I hope constituents will agree.
