When a political system necessitates deceit and large sums of money to elect the country's leader, perhaps it's time to consider a change in the election process.
If our Constitution were respected and followed, integrity would return. Of course, it's understood that constitutional interpretation is an important part of the flexibility that the Founding Fathers knew would be part of the judicial system's decisions. But let's honor that with integrity.
Another possibility is parliamentary government. Money raised for the short campaigns in England is nowhere near the amount needed in the U.S. Lies and constant robocalls and ads are not prolific in England.
Of course, elections in England can happen at any time, and maybe that is better. But our Constitution is not written for parliamentary government.
So what's the answer? Laws limiting campaign spending and the deceit and untruths told by those running for the office. We have to eliminate the fear of officials in government of losing their job if they do expose these lies. Let's improve our election system and let democracy and freedom reign.
