Well, it didn't take long for The Sun to choose sides in the budget battle. In the first paragraph of your editorial, the blame was placed squarely on Gov. Larry Hogan ("Hogan's choice," April 15).
If you want acrimony in Annapolis, one only needs to challenge the Democratic Senate and House leaders. Governor Hogan challenged them to cut spending, and in Democratic circles that amounts to heresy. For example, the Democratically-controlled legislature apparently turned a blind eye to The Sun's own investigation regarding education spending in Baltimore ("Thornton tells lawmakers city schools will lay off 100 central office staff," April 3). But that's typical in union-controlled workplaces. The bloated school administration is pulling hundreds of thousands of dollars for salaries and perks while schoolchildren need supplies and rank-and-file teachers scratch for things they need in the classroom. It's been that way for years. The Sun's editors should read their own report.
You should not blame Mr. Hogan for that situation. I support him in his efforts to stem the tide of continuous taxes and outrageous spending by the Democrats in the General Assembly. To our governor, I say, "Stand you ground" — and be very careful of the Senate and House leaders who have been around so long they think they own the legislature. They will work every angle they can to bring down the Hogan administration. Mr. Hogan, watch your back.
