Let's show Brooks Robinson how much he means to us

I was saddened to read in Saturday's Baltimore Sun that Brooks Robinson was unable to attend a news conference for the 30th Annual Brooks Robinson All-Star Game because "he is battling a very, very serious illness and (is) a little under the weather once again" ("Robinson misses event," June 11).

It's time for Orioles fans to show Brooks how much he really means to us. By coincidence, the Orioles will be playing the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, July 26th. Brooks showed the entire baseball world his skills during the 1970 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds, where his highlight reel is still the best primer on how to play third base, and he was selected the Most Valuable Player.

Let the Mayor proclaim Sunday, July 26th, Brooks Robinson Day. Let's get 50,000 Oriole fans into Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Sunday, July 26th, to show Brooks how much he really means to us.

Leon Reinstein, Baltimore
