The commentary on how Ben Bradlee helped bring down Spiro Agnew is very interesting and accurate ("How Bradlee helped fell Agnew," Oct. 30). Ironically, though, it is also partially self-indicting by The Sun. During the whole Watergate story, The Sun did nothing but rewrite (as many other papers did also) what The Washington Post came up with on a day-to-day basis.
Agnew's misadventures were right in The Sun's backyard, so to speak, and the paper took little or no notice of his criminal activity. Sorrowfully, The Sun back then was a day late, dollar short paper. For example, The Sun turned down Seymour Hersh's offer of the My Lai story although no other media at that time had been offered the story.
