Ehrlich, like Reagan, makes Republicans feel comfortable with their prejudices [Letter]

The late Jack Germond's was a name with which The Sun could be proud to be associated decades ago. But today's Sun is something else. It has former Republican Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. writing columns in a paper that is a mere shell of its former self ("10 Wishes for the New Year," Dec. 29).

It is totally exasperating to read words that decry fiscal and social problems that Mr. Ehrlich and his party have contributed to and use to set Americans against each other. It's the blame game of shooting the victim and cheering on the system that creates victims.

But neither Mr. Ehrlich nor the Republicans admit to having had any part in any in this. Instead, Mr. Ehrlich pays homage to Ronald Reagan, who made it fashionable to denigrate the victims of our society.

I, on the other hand, pay homage to Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt — truly great Republicans.
