When it comes to biking on roadways, I agree with Johns Hopkins University Professor Felipe Pereda: "What I've realized is that (biking is) just impossible to do safely" ("Biking advocates bemoan slow pace of promised safety improvements," Jan. 3).
The roadways aren't even safe for 2,000-pound cars these days, let alone 20-pound bicycles.
Putting some paint down on the road doesn't change that. It only gives would-be bikers a false sense of security.
It reminds me of the pedestrian crosswalks painted at non-intersections across six- or eight-lane thoroughfares.
To paraphrase Nike, "just don't do it!"
