Thanks to commentator Gary J. Katz for a great piece about Baltimore Beach ("Don't pave paradise," July 29).
I couldn't agree more, and I know thousands of people who share Mr. Katz's sentiments as well. I wish there was a way to prove to the city and its decision-makers that we don't need another parking deck and park in that location.
To those of us who actually live near the Inner Harbor it is pretty obvious that there are already plenty of parking decks and parks in the area that don't get enough use. The courts in Cherry Hill will never get much attention as it is simply not a destination for the tax-paying young professionals who fill the Inner Harbor beach courts every day.
Baltimore Beach is not only an oasis for active people in the Baltimore area, but it also attracts tourists, many of whom head to the shops, bars and restaurants near the harbor before and after matches.
I guarantee the city will never find a better use for this precious patch of land off of Key Highway. I hope there are other ways we can make our voices heard because there are so many of us who will fight to keep the beach.
