Stop calling attention to 'loud mouths'

The following video excerpts depict a confrontation between Baltimore County Police and Korryn Gaines during a traffic stop on March 10, 2016.

Why does The Sun continue to give front page attention to people who fight with police and wind up getting hurt or killed ("Woman ignored plea to give up," Aug. 3)?

Police have families and want to go home to them after every shift. They don't want to debate the law or rights with someone they stop for an alleged violation of the law. The time for people to air their grievances is with the judge. The police have been trained in the law and don't need some loud mouths to tell them what they think their rights might be.

What people need to understand is police have the right to require you to sign for a traffic citation so they can compare your signature to your signature on your license. Failure to satisfy the officer might just get you arrested and your car towed.

When a judge orders a failure to appear warrant, you don't have a right to point a shotgun at the police who are coming to arrest you. The result could be deadly. This is exactly what happened to Korryn Gaines. She was a loud mouth when her car was stopped for illegal tags and a loud mouth when the police came to arrest her for failure to appear.

Fortunately, the police were not injured and Ms. Gaines will no longer have the opportunity to tell police what her rights are.
