The decision by President Barack Obama to extend our mission in Afghanistan is in need of a comment or two ("President Obama to leave about 8,400 troops in Afghanistan at year-end," July 6).
Let it be known that there are many U.S. government-awarded contracts in the Afghan territory worth millions of dollars that our government is obligated to pay. A case in point is the multimillion dollar contract awarded for several years of maintenance to government-owned vehicles.
Added to the list are security contracts in the area. And finally, an approved withdrawal plan has still not been formulated and withers in the winds of Washington.
