Thanks to whoever made the courageous decision to identify the cause of 24-year-old Alexander Hoehn's recent death as substance abuse ("Alexander B. 'Alex' Hoehn, Towson High graduate and restaurant server, dies," July 22).

By bringing addiction out of the shadows and showing the faces of the people we are losing to this disease, we can continue to move toward breaking the stigma of addiction.

I was lucky to know Alex and his infectious smile, his witty sense of humor, his compassion for others. He was so much more than just an addict. My prayers go out to his family and to all those who continue to struggle with addiction.
