My name is Cyril Scovens and I have been in recovery from active addiction for 20 years. I want to let our politicians know that we vote for the causes that resonate with us. I need them to sign the Comprehensive Addiction Recovery act (CARA) that is before Congress right now and hope they'll visit FacingAddiction.org to see what is happening to help solve our national health crisis ("For some drug-addicted Maryland youths, treatment is the way to a new life," Oct. 23).
I want addiction treatment to be placed on the same level as mental health. I have become a member of Faces and Voices in Recovery to remove the stigma of addiction from the mindset of people all over the world. I have voted in every election for two decades, but I voted alone. Now I cast my vote with the 20 million other people in long term recovery. We speak for our brothers and sisters that are still in active addiction who cannot speak for themselves. Pass the CARA bill so that these people can get addiction treatment.
