Letter writer Jeff Donnelley chastises reader Marc Raim for labeling addiction a "choice" rather than a disease ("Addiction is a disease like no other," June 7).
Short of in-utero exposure or having it forcefully injected or shoved down one's throat, how, pray tell, does one get this disease without making the choice to use the substance?
Everyone knows that the main reason for calling it a disease is to fund the treatment industry and its dubious results.
We are told that the first step in treatment is admitting the problem, and it seems to me that calling it a disease is denial 101.
