Dream Act opponents, like Del. McDonough, are short-sighted

As we all know, most politicians are extremely shortsighted and parochial. Del. Patrick McDonough is a fine example of this species ("Petition drive yields big numbers," July 1).

The shameful effort to repeal the Dream Act can only mean two things: a) the delegate wants to create a permanent underclass of people who have been denied an opportunity at a decent education in Maryland, or b) the delegate wants to see our Hispanic neighbors forcibly transported back to — mainly — Mexico to enjoy the drug wars in that country.

Drug wars to supply the American habit and fought with illegal American guns. Of course, when as a result of the delegate's obsession, some of the young people resort to crime, the delegate will gladly pay the taxes to apprehend, convict and incarcerate them.

I would urge the signature commission to count how many people have signed with "Judge Taney" — from a Maryland historical perspective this may be prudent!
