In my 65 years, I have always been proud to be an American, but not today. That a man endorsed by the Ku Klux Klan, who brags about getting away with sexually assaulting women, who considers all Muslims to be terrorists, calls Mexicans rapists and criminals, brags about not paying taxes, and takes pride in declaring bankruptcy so he does not have to pay his debts, will be our next president, is shameful.
If Donald Trump fulfills the agenda he has announced, millions of immigrants will be rounded up and shipped out of the country at a cost of billions of dollars, and we will lose people who are critical to the fabric of our economy. This includes people who helped build Trump Tower and were stiffed out of the wages they earned by our now president-elect. Millions of Americans will lose their health insurance and his tax cuts on the rich will increase the gap between the top 1 percent of the wealthiest Americans and everyone else.
Mr. Trump's presidency will be a wound more damaging than any terrorist attack could ever exact upon this nation (including 9/11), and it is all self-inflicted. The light has gone out on the shining city on the hill, and we have noting to be proud of.
