Aug. 12: Red Sox 4, Orioles 1

Red Sox ace Chris Sale came off the disabled list to strike out 12 Orioles — on track to break a major league record for most Ks in a single game (20) — before manager Alex Cora pulled him after five innings (and 68 pitches) to preserve his arm. Renato Núñez was the only Oriole to get a hit off him with a single in the fourth inning.

The Boston bullpen, even after a taxing three-game weekend, delivered another six punchouts, including a seventh-inning whiff by Chris Davis that was so forceful he threw his bat and a swing by Mark Trumbo on a slider to end the game.
