Outgoing Baltimore State's Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein will rejoin a prominent national firm where he will resume his practice of white collar criminal defense and public corruption litigation.
Bernstein, who was ousted by former prosecutor Marilyn J. Mosby in the Democratic primary, will return to Zuckerman Spaeder LLP in February, the firm announced Tuesday.
"Gregg is widely admired and is a terrific lawyer," Martin S. Himeles, Jr., managing partner of Zuckerman Spaeder's Baltimore office, said in a statement. "He has long been a good friend and was a valued partner, and all of us in Baltimore are delighted that he will be rejoining the firm."
Bernstein was a partner at the firm from 2004 to 2010, when he left for the state's attorney office. During his time there, Bernstein created the Major Investigations Unit that is designed to build cases against repeat violent offenders, among other initiatives.
He called his time in office "extremely rewarding" and said he looked forward to a returning to the firm. He also will work in the areas of environmental crime and commercial litigation.
