Party: Mr. Pratt's Party

At the inaugural "Mr. Pratt's Party," the host was everywhere. As the 300 guests entered the Enoch Pratt Free Library, they were greeted by the 19th-century Baltimore businessman who created the city's library system — as portrayed by Vince Fitzpatrick. Mr. Pratt also watched over the $250-a-ticket black tie gala from a number of portraits scattered around the party areas. He was even underfoot — his visage stenciled on the dance floor.

"When do you ever get to dance on Mr. Pratt's head?" asked Kate Powell, who co-chaired the black-tie affair with Christine Espenshade.

Pat Lasher, library board chair, pointed out that Pratt's predilection for Champagne was also on full display — glasses could be plucked from the brass skirt hoops of a server who made her way through the throng.

"This really captures Mr. Pratt's spirit. He liked to party. … [Tonight] shows that you can do good and have fun."
