Must Trump employ the wife beaters?

While an argument can be made that the #MeToo movement has, perhaps, ensnared a few fellows whose misbehavior was more clumsy and pathetic than genuinely threatening, arrogant and damaging, most of the public figures outed for their grievously inappropriate or criminal actions toward women have surely deserved their comeuppances. There appears little doubt that Rob Porter is a villain whose expulsion from the White House should have been a no-brainer (“White House grappling with fallout from aide’s resignation over domestic abuse allegations,” Feb. 11).

An unfortunately tone-deaf President Donald Trump suggests that Mr. Porter deserves some measure of "due process" before he is condemned as the cowardly, woman-beating thug his ex-wives accuse him to be. I would remind Mr. Trump that O.J. Simpson was given due process when faced with his own spousal abuse issues and was exonerated. Would that then qualify Mr. Simpson for some high position in the Trump White House?

Please, President Trump, your supporters can laugh off your tweets and enjoy you hoisting a corrupt Washington establishment with its own petard, but when the creepy and irredeemably deplorable drift into your orbit — the Roy Moores and the Rob Porters — be absolutely merciless in jettisoning them away. That shouldn't be too much to ask of you.
