Van Hollen was soft on Social Security benefits

Heather Mizeur may like Rep. Chris Van Hollen ("Heather Mizeur: Only Chris Van Hollen can fill Barbara Mikulski's shoes," March 28). I have no use for a candidate who lies about his past and accuses his opponent of lying when she tells the truth about it.

It is a matter of record that a little over three years ago, Mr. Van Hollen was talking favorably about cuts to Social Security. There were articles in The Washington Post and Bloomberg News, among other journals. He was not doing that because Social Security was in desperate trouble; it is not. He was doing it to get a one-time budget deal.

I don't need a candidate who is willing to sacrifice seniors, orphans and disabled workers for a minor political advantage. Still less do I need a candidate who lies about his previous positions as if nobody could possibly remember and all that matters is what he says today.

Integrity matters. I support Rep. Donna Edwards because she is honest and consistently progressive.
