TV ratings for the Preakness Stakes were up 12 percent over last year, according to figures released Monday by NBC.
NBC’s telecast drew a 5.5 rating and 12 share in overnights. That does not include viewing on digital platforms. (Rating is the percentage of all TVs, while share is the percentage of those in use at the time of the telecast.)
Viewing for NBC’s coverage peaked from 6:45 to 7 p.m., the time of the race, at a 6.6 rating and 15 share.
Baltimore was a close second among top markets for viewing.
Louisville was first with a 15.2/30, while Baltimore had a 14.9/31. (Ranking goes by rating.)
Tampa followed with a 10.7/20, while Washington had a 10.3/23, and Ft. Myers a 9.9/19.
The next five in order were: Buffalo, Richmond, New Orleans, Philadelphia and Tulsa.
