Miri Marshall, a weathercaster at KCEN-TV in central Texas, will join WBAL-TV Aug. 22, as part of the station's weather team, general manager Dan Joerres said Tuesday.

Marshall fills a role that became vacant when meterologist John Collins retired as a full-time staffer at the end of May, after 24 years at the station.

Collins still has a freelance relationship with WBAL-TV, according to Joerres.

"Miri has a lot of personality, a lot of energy on-air," Joerres said Tuesday. "She's going to be a good addition to our team."

Joerres said Marshall is working toward certification from the American Meteorological Society.

KCEN broadcasts to the Texas cities of Waco, Bryan, Killeen and Temple.

Marshall joined KCEN in July 2011 as the morning weather anchor, according to a station newsletter.

Joerres also said that Michelle Butt, WBAL-TV's news director, has taken on expanded duties as news director of WBAL radio, effective this week.

Butt replaces Merrie Street, who became news director at the radio station in August 2011.

At that time, Hearst named Dave Hill program director of both WBAL-AM and 98 Rock, the company's FM station.

Many media companies with multiple properties have expanded the duties and responsibilities of managers this way in recent years.
