I was part of a spirited discussion at VICE News today on media coverage of the Freddie Gray story.
Here's video courtesy of the one-hour show, "Emphasis Added."
Let me know what you think.
I am astounded by the way "the media" are often treated as a monolithic entity even in discussions at some media sites.
The media are a million moving parts. Is "Mother Jones" the same as Fox News? Is PBS "NewsHour" the same as Vox?
Before we can get better media criticism, we have to first start understanding what the media are and then start talking about media performance in a more nuanced, representative way.
I tried to drive this conversation in that direction, and am grateful to VICE Editor-in-Chief and show host Jason Mojica for giving me the room to do that.
