Ravens-Patriots game helps set record for social media comments

Sunday's AFC and NFC championship games each generated more social media comments than last year's Super Bowl, and they are now the top two games on record.

The Baltimore Ravens loss to the New England Patriots had 2.44 million social media comments, while the New York Giants overtime victory agains the San Francisco 49ers had 2.85 million, according to Bluefin Labs, a Massachusetts TV and social media consultant.

Fifteen minutes into the contest that started at 3 p.m., the Ravens game had already run up more than a quarter of a million social media comments.

By comparison, the launch of "American Idol" generated 518,000 social media comments, while the start of the most recent cycle of "Jersey Shore" had 410,000 social media comments.
