Here's Megyn Kelly's response to Donald Trump's attacks on her over the weekend for questions she asked at a GOP debate last Thursday. She questioned him about some of his past remarks in which he called women he didn't like "fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals."
Friday night, he accused her of being out to get him and worse.
"You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes," Trump told CNN's Don Lemon. "Blood coming out of her wherever."
Many analysts thought he should apologize for the ugly attack.
I thought Kelly's questioning of Trump at the debate was outstanding. It was some of the best public affairs journalism ever done on Fox News.
And I love what she said tonight.
"Trump, who is the frontrunner, will not apologize," Kelly said at the end of her statement shown in the video here. "And I certainly will not apologize for doing good journalism. So, I'll continue doing my job without fear or favor, and I expect he will continue with what has been a successful campaign thus far.
"This is a tough business. And now it's time to move forward. And now, let's get back to the news.
Kelly sounds like she's channeling a little Edward R. Murrow. She's also signaling that she's tough enough to take anything he can throw at her.
Good for her. Only in an America so confused that it has become a kind of political Planet Bizarro could a bully like Trump find any support for demanding an apology from her because she tried to give potential voters vital information about the way he has denigrated women.
Thank goodness at least Kelly understands this is a not a TV game or reality show. This is our future we're talking about.
I not only hope she will keep the heat on Trump, I hope some of her colleagues will find the courage to do the same - no matter what the polls and extreme right-wing radio hosts and websites say.
