Maryland-made "House of Cards" was one of several entertainment series to win a Peabody Award Wednesday.
"By releasing an entire season of episodes at once, Netflix took binge viewing to a new level and obliterated the idea that a hit TV show needs a slot in prime time," the judges said of the political drama starring Kevin Spacey.
Other entertainment series winning Peabody Awards included: "The Bridge" (FX), "Breaking Bad" (AMC), "Scandal" (ABC), "Orange Is the New Black" (Netflix), and "Broadchurch" and "Orphan Black" on BBC America.
Cable news channel Al Jazeera America won two Peabodys for films on cholera in Haiti and a garment factory fire in Bangladesh; both films are part of its "Fault Lines" documentary series.
