Book on Adnan Syed gets new publication date this summer

St. Martin's Press has moved the publication date of a book on Adnan Syed, the Baltimore man in prison for killing his former high school girlfriend, from September to Aug. 9 as a ruling is awaited on a new trial for Syed.

The case surrounding the death of Hae Min Lee, a Woodlawn High School student who was killed in 1999, was chronicled in "Serial," a podcast by Sarah Koenig that debuted in 2014 and has been downloaded more than 500 million times.

The book from St. Martin's titled "Adnan's Story: The Search for Truth and Justice after 'Serial'" is written by Rabia Chaudry, an attorney who brought the case to Koenig's attention.

Chaudry, a family friend of Syed's who believes he is innocent, has covered the story in her podcast "Undisclosed."

Interest remains high in the case after a February post-conviction hearing in Baltimore on a new trial for Syed.

Earlier this month, Investigation Discovery aired "Adnan Syed: Innocent or Guilty?" -- a documentary on the murder of Lee and Syed's 17 years in jail.
