After one year as a paid contributor, Dr. Ben Carson is leaving Fox News, an indication that he is about to announce his candidacy for president in 2016.
The former Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon is set to unveil a biography film this weekend introducing himself to voters, according to the Washington Times.
Carson writes a column for the Times.
Even though there was no official announcement, sources at Fox News Friday confirmed Carson's departure from the channel that helped make him a rising conservative star after an appearance at the National Prayer Breakfast where he criticized some of the policies of President Barack Obama with the president in attendance.
Carson continued to gain notice by using his Fox News platform the last year to become a leading critic of the president's healthcare plan, popularly known as Obamacare. He compared it to Marxism.
Carson also came under fire for remarks about same-sex marriage in which he equated homosexuality with bestiality. Following these remarks, he stepped down as a graduation speaker at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
The biography film titled "A Breath of Fresh Air: A New Prescription for America," will air in 22 states, according to the Times.

Fox has gone through similar situations with paid contributors like Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum in previous presidential election cycles.
