As this calendar year creaks to an end, I also mark the start of my tenth year here in Wordville, You Don't Say having been launched on December 20, 2005.*
I write this blog to suit myself. It doesn't disturb me that the subjects are obscure and of interest to at the most a tiny audience, and I am unashamed to indulge in prose that regularly betrays an adolescent exposure to the work of H.L. Mencken.
The surprising thing is that this blog has gathered a following, not a multitude or a teeming host, to be sure, but readers of a certain sophistication and discernment. In a word, you, dear hearts.
So, constitutionally incapable as I am of shutting up, I move onward, delighted to think that many of you will be tagging along.
