Coming to you live from the Baltimore Sun’s lobby on Thursday: a lunch-hour concert by award-winning singer-songwriter SONiA disappear fear. A Baltimore native who was originally teamed with her sister, Cindy Frank, SONiA has been performing and recording for years both with a band and as a solo artist. She’s traveled widely, bringing her indie folk-pop music to audiences across the country and around the world.
Her awards include a GLAMA (Gay and Lesbian American Music Awards) for female artist of the year (1999), as well as several GLAAD and OUTMusic Awards. (Her song, “Who I Am (Say Amen)” won an OUTMusic Award for best single of 2010, and she just released it on video as a tribute to the victims of the Orlando massacre.) SONiA has been nominated 15 times for a Grammy, and has been recognized for her humanitarian efforts and her support of LGBT rights.
Her new double live album, “LiVE at MAXiMAL,” was released in April.
To hear and watch the 30-minute Lobby Concert, go to The Sun’s Facebook page just before the 12:30 pm start and stay tuned. This is the latest in what we hope is a series of live-stream mini-concerts from the Sun lobby on North Calvert Street.
Baltimore native Cyrus Chestnut, one of the most celebrated jazz pianists in the world, is slated to perform a Lobby Concert on Sept. 1.
