Overdue honors for Henrietta Lacks

I read with great interest the recent articles on Henrietta Lacks ("Lacks' family to have say in use of her genetic material," Aug. 7).

My son Chris Keating, a graduate of the Park School, became so interested in her story that two years ago he wrote a song for his group Yeasayer, entitled "Oh Henrietta."

It has been widely acclaimed in Europe and Australia, where the band has toured many times. Her uniqueness and contribution to medical science have been applauded by thousands of fans singing the refrain "Oh, Henrietta, you will live on forever."

I am glad to see that her family has finally been formally honored by the National Institutes of Health.

Anton J.S. Keating.
