Florida law made it easy to kill someone and get away with it

Letter writer Ron Wirsing is quite correct when he says that "stand your ground self-defense laws are working" ("Zimmerman trial had nothing to do with race," July 17).

What he doesn't mention however, is that this particularly inane Florida law and others like it are designed to make it easy to kill someone and get away with it.

Usually there are only two witnesses, and one of them is dead. George Zimmerman shot a kid walking on a public street in a gated community to which he had been invited.

The kid had an iced tea and a bag of Skittles. Mr. Zimmerman had a gun. Who was more entitled to self-defense?
