Lori and Ehrlich: A match made in heaven

It was with great disappointment that I read Archbishop William E. Lori's op-ed piece on Sunday ("Religious freedom under threat in U.S.," June 16). His claims are not supported but rather tossed off casually and embedded in numerous spiritual platitudes. The Catholic Church's credibility is at an all time low. It should be cleaning up it's own backyard. Yet as with so many in the upper echelons of the church's hierarchy, Mr. Lori fails to bring humility to the public forum — but hubris instead. Unsupported claims from the pulpit have manipulated many of the faithful on political issues in the U.S. since before the building of Latrobe's beautiful Basilica — including the poor that the archbishop claims to be looking out for in his article.

Am I an expert on the new health care law? Definitely not, few are. But I recognize partisan rabble rousing when I see it. The Archbishop should team up with former Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. to produce his weekly column. They're a match made in heaven.
