GOP's refusal to compromise will push us over the fiscal cliff

Republican House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor argues that there is no mandate for raising taxes on millionaires ("Boehner sees jumping off point for 'fiscal cliff' talks," Nov. 8).

Never mind that polls show that a majority of Americans and even a majority of Republicans favor a balanced approach to reducing our debt, which translates into support for raising tax rates on the wealthiest Americans.

I am constantly amazed at Mr. Cantor's denial of reality. His kind will sink the Republican Party in its opposition to compromise and effective government.
