KAL cartoon got the causes of the economic meltdown all wrong

Cartoonist Kevin "KAL" Kallaugher's highly-slanted cartoon about the economy got the causes of the ballooning deficit and financial collapse all wrong (June 3).

The second panel should have shown Bush giving the Democratic-controlled Congress in 2007 — two years before Barack Obama became president — a Dow that closed at 12,621.77, a GDP growth of 3.5 percent and a 4.6 percent unemployment rate. At that time there had been 52 straight months of job growth.

You can thank Democrats Rep. Barney Frank and Sen. Chris Dodd for the meltdown starting with upward of $5 trillion in toxic loans being dumped on the economy.

Budgets come from Congress, not the White House — the Democrats controlled both houses beginning January 3, 2007 and they inherited the lowest deficit in five years.

President Obama and the Democrats then voted for spending increases that have increased the deficit four-fold since then. KAL should do his homework instead of propagating propaganda.
