Bridgeport bids a fond farewell to Archbishop Lori

As mayor of Bridgeport, Conn., I considered it an honor and a privilege to have a man like Bishop William Lori in our city for the last 11 years. I considered Bishop Lori to be a partner in helping make Bridgeport a better city, a leader of our community and, most importantly, a friend who always had time to speak with me. He leaves behind a very proud legacy in Bridgeport.

While I will certainly miss having him in Bridgeport working passionately on the education of our young people and the sheltering of our poor, I am very pleased to see him elevated to archbishop. I believe that he definitely deserves the recognition.

The Archdiocese of Baltimore is gaining an exceptional man who has demonstrated an ability to overcome unique challenges, most of which he inherited. I am confident that he will accomplish great things in Baltimore.

Congratulations and best wishes to Bishop Lori and his beloved golden retriever, Noble, in their new home.

I look forward to continuing to work with the Diocese of Bridgeport during this transitional period, and I'm here to welcome Bishop Lori's successor whoever that may be.
