There will always be winners and losers; it's the way the world works

Those who try harder, study more and use all their talents to achieve usually are rewarded for their efforts; those who stand back and wait for things to be given to them can only expect the crumbs of life

In response to letter writer Patrick Weadon's statement that "no one wins unless everyone wins," that's just a flowery misstatement if you ask me ("Mossburg: A mouthpiece for those who don't want to pay their fair share," Jan. 23).

Of course there are winners and losers in life. The winners get the perks and rewards for their efforts and the losers can only try harder to be winners.

Mr. Weadon's formula is just the same old pap. Give kids trophies for just showing up, and let people get by on subsidies and welfare rather than show them the way up.

He needs to grow up and see how life really is. Those who try harder, study more and use all their talents to achieve usually are rewarded for their efforts. Those who stand back and wait for things to be given to them can only expect the crumbs of life.
