It is time to recycle this once proud and true Baltimore landmark, Harborplace ("Phillips leaving Harborplace," June11). It has served its purpose well, and with Jim Rouse's and Mayor Schaefer' vision took a once languishing passing through town and made it a destination city, attracting in some years even more people than Disney World.
Now our great city is again on the decline, it is aging, and but for the Grand Prix, it is boring. So it is time once again to leverage our unique harbor assets to bring Baltimore out of the desert to soar once again. What an opportunity we have to be the Monte Carlo of the western world. Tear it down, rebuild it as a world class casino and destination resort with all of the table games that attract the high rollers. There wouldn't be a city in America that could compete with us having the Grand Prix, Hackerman Arena and hotel, a renewed convention center, Paterakis Harbor East, Federal Hill, and perhaps a Baltimore Regatta, all being first class reasons to come here and spend money.
Baltimore, it is time to look through the eyes of Walter, Don, and Jim and just get it done. Now.
