The government is looking for ways to raise revenue, so why doesn't it tax gun owners?

The government taxes car buyers, smokers and alcohol consumers. All three kill people. Why doesn't the government try to tax everyone who wants to own a gun?

The gun lobby is so strong this will probably never happen, but it should. With fewer guns, maybe fewer people would die.
