Gay marriage debate: What took so long?

I am dismayed at the length of time our lawmakers spent on the gay marriage issue, accomplishing nothing. The subject of gay marriage should have been quickly approved and the myriad of other and greater problems affecting Maryland tackled.

As for gay marriage, the religious zealots who disapprove would do well to remember that the wars, cruelty and inhumane treatment perpetrated on humanity throughout history in the name of religion were many and far reaching. This is the 21st century and it's time to use some common sense. As for the morality of gay marriage, judge not, lest ye be judged!

Separate religion from politics, let the gays marry — it harms no one — and get on with the more important issues affecting Maryland. That is why we elected you.
