No right is absolute in a functional society

Raymond Daniel Burke's op-ed ("Free speech is a right — but not the only right," March 8) I believe expressed the opinion of the majority of the American citizens. I remember a philosophy that was popular some years ago: "Freedom of Speech should be observed, but we must not yell, "Fire," in a crowded theater." Fanatics often overstep our rights by not remembering that there are many different freedoms but one freedom can contradict another.

Further, I have never been able to understand a Christian religious group that promotes hate while professing to follow Jesus Christ whose primary message has always been "love thy neighbor."
