I was appalled at your failure to tell both sides of the story in your article about the Werdesheim case ("Protesters gather as brothers plead not guilty in beating," Feb. 17). You devote the following two paragraphs to what happened, according to charging documents:

"According to charging documents, the teen told police that he was walking after midnight in the 3300 block of Fallstaff Road when a vehicle appeared and followed him for a short distance before two men jumped out. One grabbed him and threw him to the ground, the documents say, and the other — who police believe was the elder Werdesheim — struck him on the head with a two-way radio and asked if he 'had anything on him.'

"After uttering an expletive, according to police, one of the men shouted, 'You don't belong around here — get out of here!'

Yet not once do you mention the other side of the story — the brothers' claim that the alleged victim threatened them with a 2x4 with nails and shouted anti-Semitic slurs. With all of those vivid details of one side of the story, you couldn't find room for any part of the other?

To create room, perhaps you could have cut the final quote from the story: "Marshear Marsh, director of alumni affairs at Sojourner-Douglass College, disagreed. She said the youth had been attacked just for walking through a neighborhood. 'How,' she asked, 'can we live with that as a society?'"

This shows what side The Sun has taken.
