In his op-ed "Go slow on pension reform" (Oct. 19) Patrick Moran states that eliminating state employees' defined benefit plan would create new funding problems because current retirees' payments wouldn't be funded by new contributions from younger workers. Where have I heard that before — was it Charles Ponzi or Bernie Madoff? No fiscal problem ever gets better by pushing the ball down the hill. That is what has caused this problem.
